HOW TO RAISE A READER: 5 TIPS FOR PARENTS
Make it Fun
The first rule of reading is to have fun. Variety really is key , so get creative. Be as animated as you can, play dress up, read under the stars; the options are endless. When you bring a story to life, it transforms the reading experience.
Follow their Lead
Give your child a choice of books to pick from. Empower them and let them choose, even if it means reading the same thing every day for a month. If they love to read it, let them. It is important that you give them the freedom to develop their own taste and find out what they like.
Stay Consistent
Start reading together from an early age. Try and read every night before bed, so it becomes part of their every day routine. Even if it's a five minute read or a 30 minute read, It all counts. Just keep it consistent.
Turn 2D into 4D
Whether you're letting your child roam free in a bookshop or booking tickets for a book to stage adaption; think about how you can make reading a deeper and more enriching experience. It is about creating positive and enduring memories beyond the physical page.
Lead by Example
You are your child's greatest influence, so let them see you read. By making reading part of general family life, you are reinforcing the idea that reading is not a chore, a task or limited to a time of day. If you enjoy to read, let it shine through.
